As part of my PR degree at Bournemouth University, I needed to seek out relevant employment for a 40 week work placement. Instead of firing off yet another bog-standard CV, I decided to use the skills from my course and instead create a unique online campaign. Relying on minimal budget, and taking advantage of my naturally trampish appearance, I developed the "Adopt A Student" campaign, a mock charity initiative portraying myself as a homeless student in need of corporate adoption.
The stunt relied on a microsite, online video, email campaign and twitter account. It was further supported with targeted press releases distributed across the UK.
Throughout this three month campaign the microsite gained over 10,000 hits, added to by over 3000 video views and a large following on twitter. It also received several pieces of local coverage as well as a spot on Hot Off The Net TV.
Following this, I was offered employment by The NHS, Remarkable Group, Blake Lapthorn Law and Lineup Media. The campaign has since been featured on the CMC Showcase, which promotes the best works from young communications professionals.
